Abstract
A worn dentition can lead to a multitude of esthetic compromises onto a patient’s anterior teeth, such as chipping and shortening of the clinical crown height. This clinical presentation is quite discerning to the patients’ eyes that they often seek veneers as a solution to resolve their esthetic concerns. However, the treating dental provider must determine the diagnosis and cause(s) for the anterior esthetic problems to prevent further breakdown of any definitive restorations. Form follows function: if the worn dentition is properly diagnosed and addressed, the esthetics will gradually, and ultimately, follow naturally. This article will address the etiology of tooth wear and discuss how to harmoniously re-build the occlusion in a minimally invasive and esthetic manner utilizing adhesive dentistry and ceramic restorations.
