Interstitial lung disease associated with psoriatic arthritis: a new disease entity?

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) are commonly associated with rheumatic disorders; unfortunately, little data are available on the association between ILD and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). A recent research article included a retrospective review of the clinical and radiological features of ILD patients with concomitant psoriasis [1]. Twenty‐one out of 450 psoriasis patients (4.7%) showed fibrotic lung involvement. Only four showed concomitant PsA [1]. Peluso et al. [2] conducted a wide epidemiological study, reporting an incidence of 1% of ILD in a population of 387 patients with PsA. These patients were smokers and had HRCT evidence of apical lung fibrosis. Other case series reported various radiological patterns of lung involvement in patients with PsA, including a predominant nodular pattern or ground glass opacities in the upper lobes associated with reticulation and honeycombing of the lower lobes [3, 4]. …
