Abstract
Purpose
To report a predictable minimally invasive Nd:YAG laser treatment for extensive epulis fissuratum that was discovered in faculty of dentistry, Alexandria University.
Background
A tumor-like hyperplasia of fibrous connective tissue called epulis fissuratum appears in conjunction with an ill-fitting complete denture.
Case report
This is a case report of 66-years-old male patient who used a complete denture for 20 years. The lesion was removed with 1064 mm Nd:YAG laser (Lightwalker, Fotona). The setting parameters used were power 2 Watts, frequency 30 Hz, with 300 mm tip, in contact mode under infiltrative local anaesthesia. Follow-up period showed an appropriate healing with no recurrence.
Conclusion
Nd:YAG lasers offered rapid cutting, excellent hemostasis, coagulation, deeper penetration, and rapid healing with favourable outcomes.
