Pediatric stress cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide valuable clinical information; yet, the technique is beset with its own set of unique challenges, including need to balance achievement of adequate physiologic stress to provoke inducible perfusion defects with avoidance of adverse events such as significant hypotension. Also, many children require anesthesia for cardiovascular MRI which adds further complexity. As many pediatric cardiologists and radiologists can attest, while the patients are the ones under pharmacologic stress, the clinicians proctoring the exam may experience a measure of physiologic stress themselves as they seek to balance all these considerations and complete a safe and effective diagnostic study. …
