Mortality attributed to cardiovascular (CV) disease has decreased in the United States over the last few decades.[
1] Whether patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) derived similar reductions in CV mortality in the current era compared to patients without CKD has not been well characterized. We used the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention WONDER dataset to identify patients with primary CV cause of mortality, identified by ICD 10 codes, between 1999 and 2020. Decedents were grouped based on whether CKD (N18) was listed as a contributing cause of mortality. Age adjusted percent change (AAPC) between the study period of 1999 to 2020 was calculated for patients with and without contributing CKD, as previously described. [
